Our Guru Paramahansa Yogananda has said that there is celebration in the astral on the special days of our Great Gurus, and that when we tune in to these vibrations we receive special blessings. One way we can tune in is to start in advance bringing the Guru into our consciousness by reading about him from our SRF/YSS teachings and sharing quotes and photos with each other.

About Lahiri Mahasaya:

“One of the seminal figures in the renaissance of yoga in modern times, the revered nineteenth-century master LAHIRI MAHASAYA, had foretold: ‘About fifty years after my passing, an account of my life will be written because of a deep interest in yoga that will arise in the West. The message of yoga will encircle the globe. It will aid in establishing the brotherhood of man: a unity based on humanity’s direct perception of the One Father.’

Many years later, Lahiri Mahasaya’s exalted disciple Swami Sri Yukteswar related this prophecy to Sri Yogananda. ‘You must do your part in spreading that message,’ he declared, ‘and in writing that sacred life.’

It was in 1945, exactly fifty years after Lahiri Mahasaya’s passing, that Paramahansa Yogananda completed his ‘Autobiography of a Yogi’, which amply fulfilled both of his guru’s injunctions: providing the first detailed presentation in English of Lahiri Mahasaya’s remarkable life, and introducing to a world audience India’s age-old science of the soul.”

Rajarsi Janakananda Birth Anniversary on May 5th

Rajarsi Janakananda (James J. Lynn) was a beloved disciple of Paramahansa Yogananda, and first successor to him as president and spiritual head of Self-Realization Fellowship/Yogoda Satsanga Society of India until his passing on February 20, 1955. (SRF Website)

Our teachings say that the commemoration dates of our Gurus “ARE PARTICULARLY AUSPICIOUS; THEN, SPECIAL BLESSINGS FLOW FROM THE GREAT ONES INTO RECEPTIVE HEARTS.” One way we can make our hearts more receptive is to READ about the Guru from our SRF/YSS teachings during the days leading up to these special dates. Also, Swami Smarananandaji suggests bringing in the Gurus into our MEDITATIONS around their commemoration dates; for instance, he says before the dates for Christ, he brings in Christ for those few weeks, and for Janmashtami, Bhagavan Krishna. So we may want to bring in Sri Yukteswar into our personal meditations—another way to tune in to the holy vibrations!
